Steams' Anti VN Stance! Or at Least Its' Communities!

A new game has popped up on Steam Greenlight. Steams new service for getting the public to approve niche games coming onto its "network." Basically enough people approve it and say they will buy it, they will let you. This weeks cannon fodder is called- Princess Battles.

You can view the game here and obviously over on steam.

The art isn't heart thumping amazing and it has a card game attribute which could be off putting for many but we all know we are starved of otome games here in the west. The last game Steam let slip through was Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, well over 6 months ago. Each time a VN appears we are greeted with these "swell comments"

"I'm pretty sure the developers would lose more money than they would make with this game. A very small fraction of the steam community plays games like this, not enough to make a substantial amount of money. Just sayin."

"All these japanese pop culture games appeal to only a specific part of the steam community. The rest of us truly have no intrest in game like this, sorry."

"This game should be put into a potato sack, lit on fire and beaten before being tossed into the lake, So no."

On the one hand, maybe they are realistic, and there are many more comments like them, but what we need is to get all the VN lovers and otome fans to migrate to steam and approve as many of these kinds of games as we can.
There's no reason we can't have our own section on steam and if you get popular on there it can only encourage more people to bring otome games over. They already do the eroge games quite happily but games that are aimed at women with no sex are a no no for some odd reason.
By no means am I blaming Steam for the way the community react to otome, most often it's their chromosomes getting in the way, but they could help. One day.

Go approve, and in the meantime go check out zeiva's demo for X-note as their next game, Area X, is coming out sometime soon. If this area grows in the west, maybe someone will bring over Uta Pri.

Yattaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! God this VN malarky is alot of hard work, and there are still 7 panels missing. I found the japanese guide and I'm working through it and fixing any errors from google translate so at least now it's easier once I've guessed which option is which. Hope this helps people. This route was bloody tough.

Hadaka Shitsuji/ Naked Butler Walkthrough

I've just started playing the game and decided if I work out any routes and endings I may as well post them here. Be warned, this game is filth, I'm obligated to say this because normal society states that every site should. This game is not for children and you will find no information from me about the extremely perverted contents (except I think women will enjoy it more than gay men).

Moving on-

I'm working on Toudou Aki's walkthrough. To date I have found the routes mentioned below but still no good ending. If anyone knows where I am going wrong please help everyones sanity by posting.

Toudou Aki-

Day 2-Toudou, (Komine and Arisato)
Day 3- Toudou and ichinose, sakuma or bed
Day 4- Toudou, bed, Sakuma or ichinose (irrelevant)
Day 5- Toudou, bath or have fun, Sakuma or bed

If you choose bath you get the bad ending if you select to let him wash you, it continues if you wash him. Save before this so you can go back and select have fun, this gives his loyalty talk which I think may be key.

Day 6- Toudou, boss, bed
Day 7- Toudou, bed
Day 8- Toudou, so embarassing, bed
Day 9- Typhoon day- Toudou, watch him
Day 10- bed...
Day 11- Toudou, bed
Day 12- Toudou, bed
Day 13- let the store clerk pick (to be mean to him?) bed
Day 14- Toudou, butler or boxer, bed

Possible key moment but I've tried both with the same ending
Day 15- toudou, call toudou, weight training

By selecting mountain training you can get the bad mushroom ending

Day 16-Just toudou is enough, toudou, toudou
Day 17- Toudou, shady guy
Day 18- Toudou, Shady guy
Day 19- shady guy
Day 20- Still fail, extended to receiving a job from the shady guy for bad end.

IYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....where am I going wrong?

I will play through all the routes and as I get it right I will add the perfect route or edit those already up.

UTA NO PRI TRANSLATION!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi people.
Just letting you know that I am gradually going to translate through uta no prince sama for the psp and as I translate new lines I edit this post and add to it. I'm sure it's a bad translation but it's the meanings I got when searching for the kanji's.

Today I did one line that my understanding comes out like this:

Idol:
That absolute hand that can't reach but yearns in their duty to believe.

1 Reason Why

I tried to make a list of my own experiences with sexism in the games industry though I came to a very quick block when I realised I've been pretty fortunate. The only time I felt truly uncomfortable was trying to play the demo for duke nukem at the gadget show, some guy stood behind me watching and gave me a fear of playing games in public ever again.
Seriously, if you see me at eurogamer, you'll see me looking at the games with a faked disdain as I make a note of what I want to buy but avoid queuing at all possibilities because someone, somewhere will be watching me.

The worse comments I've had about gaming have come from mothers. Like the one who said "haven't you grown out of it yet", the best comment "you give me hope that my son will find a partner one day"
I'm unsure if my username devilmaycare34 gives me some immunity when I comment on things at kotaku and other places. If I don't state I'm a woman they automatically accept my comment from a male perspective. I probably shouldn't have to hide.

I really feel for the women who have had the worst co workers in the world over at #1reasonwhy on twitter and I'm going to list the things I am thankful for instead.

I'm thankful that I met my partner in a Japanese class where he looked up to me and was grateful we shared lots of hobbies. He also appreciates that I buy more games than him.

I'm grateful to the customers at work that remind me they aren't all douche bags and sometimes make me feel really good about being a gamer, a designer, a seamstress.

I'm thankful to the girl last week that acted like my life was actually going somewhere and she was jealous. I'm starting my own business at rapture costumiers I've never considered it to be a momentous occasion as I'm still starting out but to this girl it was more than she had ever tried to do.

I'm grateful to my uni class for all the girls that thought I was one of the smartest people around, and even though they wouldn't always invite me to a conversation, they pocketed me in the category of - person to ask questions to. They were also really appreciative of my computer know how.

I also want to thank the guys on Kotaku that have awesome wives and know that we have brains in our bodies and not just sandwich making hands.  (Although I did tell my boyfriend to make me a sandwich yesterday and it really works both ways)

I'm immensely proud of the women who decided the games industry was their future and they fight to make people aware whilst the people they work with will read their pages and ridicule them as only people can.

Keep up the hard work ladies because you are the front line.

Broken Sword The Serpents Curse achieves OVER 9000!

The aim of 'Revolution' for 'The Serpent's Curse' was $400 000. All those whom pledged over at kickstarter achieved the goal within the first 2 weeks. Then Rev team rolled out their increased targets. The dream, as it were. The end goal was $800 000 with the potential of greenlighting Beneath a Steel Sky 2 if it got to 1 million. This never quite happened as kickstarter pledges and paypal pledges amount to just short of $820 000.

The good news? Revolution will now have to bring back characters like Pearl and Duane (are they really under cover operatives?) and the Goat. The goat that now has it's own page, t-shirt, memory stick. 15000 people out there now have goat fever.

Being part of the kickstarter for the last 4 weeks has been phenomenal. Unlike Double Fine that achieved it's goal within a few hours and then kept increasing, and unlike Pinkerton Road which struggled past its' goal to a decent 500 000, I kept an eye on broken sword continuously. The 15000 people who pledged kept gradually pouring what money they could into the project. You could see and feel the effort we were putting in and I'm sure I wasn't alone watching those last 5 seconds count down on the kickstarter page.

It has been a fantastic experience to be part of and I look forward to seeing my name along with the 500 others who are now Knights of the Broken Sword, in the credits.

Well done Revolution. Well done Cecil.

Vive le Revolution!
